U.S. Citizen Services
Notarial Services
The Consulate General in Curaçao only notarizes documents which will be used in the United States. Notary services are available to the public on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 09:00 - 11:00, except on U.S. and Local Holidays.
All persons wishing to have documents notarized should submit the following:
- The document(s) to be notarized
- Your valid passport or photo ID
- Provide witness(es) if your document requires them (consulate staff are not allowed to serve as witnesses)
- $30 for the 1st notarial seal and $20 for each additional notarial seal.
The ID must match with the name on the documents. If marital status is listed on the ID as single and document has a married name, the customer needs to provide a marriage certificate or vice versa.
Any person signing in a corporate capacity must provide both personal ID and business card or letter of Chamber of Commerce stating his/her name and title.
All persons signing the document must understand what the document says. The consular officer cannot notarize a document unless the consular officer is certain the signer understands what the document means. The consular officer cannot either explain or give legal advice to the customer. All documents must be completely filled in. All schedules or exhibits that are supposed to be attached to a document must be submitted. Documents should not be signed in advance.

APOSTILLE:
An apostille is the legalization of a public document, such as birth, marriage, and divorce or death certificate, by the issuing authority. Click to see a model apostille.
On October 15, 1981, The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents entered into force for the United States.
The Convention simplifies the procedures which one has to follow in order to have a document originating in any country which is a party to the Convention legalized for use in any other country which is a party to the Convention.
The American Consulate General is not authorized to provide apostilles or assist in obtaining them. Apostilles for American documents must be obtained from the appropriate office in the state which issued the document. For federal documents please contact the Authentications office of the Department of State.
If you have a local document to be legalized, you should contact the competent local authority or “Burgelijke stand” who will affix a certification (apostille) on your document.
